Interesting article, thank you. I was a network administrator, MCSE, Avaya telephony admin and then IT Director for many years. Yes, I wish more young Black women would choose "hands on" IT as a career even if they are not interested in programming. It can be a rewarding experience, emotionally and financially. I would love to do something to encourage that!

Hi MsSonya.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I agree. But I also feel that social media tools are wonderful and social networking sites can be beneficial if people use them the right way. Too many people focus on numbers and joining because everyone else is doing it. In turn, it makes social networking cliche and useless to some. I tend to ignore the glitz and focus on building real relationships. I use social media for brand awareness and social networking to build relationships. You have to look at your own agenda when weighing the authenticity or need to use social networking. We can only be concerned about what we are using it for. Anything else will drive you crazy.

Thanks for commenting and the kind words.

This article is wonderfully written and is very true. I always found it interesting how many people jump on the different social media bandwagons just for the sake of doing so. Over the past year or so many people have attempted to reach out to me through different social media tools and these are the same individuals who never really had a word for me otherwise. I really don’t understand all of the hype but then again, I too believe in organic relationships that are developed through trust and intimacy. It’s so refreshing to know I someone else shares this belief.

Thank you for the great article and not being afraid to share your thoughts and go against the norm! Much success to you and many blessings.
